#Today's Scene : 

오늘은! 쥴스(앤 헤서웨이)가 동료와 시니어 인턴에 대화를 나누는 장면이다. 진짜 이전에 대화를 나눴는지는 확실치 않지만 여튼, 시니어 인턴을 채용하는 것에 대해 마치 금시초문이라는 듯한 쥴스에게 시니어 인턴 중 한 명이 붙을 거라고 이야기하는 동료 카메론! 그리고 그 시니어 인턴은 바로 벤 할아버지가 된다는 거져~

 

인턴 (2015)

 

1. 시니어 인턴을 채용했다는 것을 쥴스에게 알리는 카메론씨~ 그리고 seem

 

Cameron: I told you I felt like we needed to do an outreach program. You definitely seemed to be liking the idea, so I set it in motion. It's gonna be great.

내가 우리도 봉사활동 (차원의) 프로그램을 진행하는 게 필요한 것 같다고 말했잖아. 너도 확실히 그 아이디어를 좋아하는 것 같아 보였고, 그래서 내가 진행했지. 정말 멋질거야.

 

Jules: Hold, please. You're hiring senior citizen interns?

잠깐만. 나이든 분들을 인턴으로 고용했다고?

 

Cameron: There's been a ton of research on this, and the results are actually incredible. I mean, imagine having an intern with a lifetime of experience as opposed to somebody who spent the last four years of their life playing beer pong.

이것과 관련된 연구자료들이 정말 많았고, 결과가 실제로 엄청나대. 내 말은, 인생 경험이 많은 인턴을 고용한다고 생각해봐 근 4년동안 맥주만 마시며 놀던 사람들 대신에 말이야.

 

*set/put somethin in motion : ~에 시동을 걸다

 

seem에는 ~처럼 보이다, ~인 것 같다처럼 명확/확실(확신)하지 않거나, 정중하게 표현하기 위한 태도가 담겨있다.

이런식으로 쓰이는데,

I seem to have a cold 나 감기 걸린 것 같아

You seemed to be liking the idea 너도 그 아이디어를 좋아하는 것 같았어

It seems like it's raining 비가 오는 것처럼 보여

It seems that the period of self quarantine would be finished in 2 weeks

자가격리 기간이 2주안에는 끝나게 될 것으로 보여

 

등등...이런 느낌을 가진 단어라고만 봐도 좋을 듯 싶다!

 

 

2. 나이든 사람들과 잘 못 어울린다며 반항하는 쥴스와 모범을 보여한다며 설득하는 카메론씌, Set the tone

 

Jules: Wait, Cameron, no. First of all, I'm not great with older people. You know how I am with my parents. This could be... Why do I have to have one?

잠깐, 카메론, 아냐. 일단, 난 나이 많은 사람들을 잘 못 대해. 너도 부모님과 내 사이가 어떤지 알잖아. 이건...왜 내가 한 분과 함께해야 하는데?

 

Cameron: Because you have to set the tone. Now, would you prefer a man or a woman? There's a great 72-year-old woman, really cute.

왜냐하면 네가 본보기가 되어야 하니까. 그럼, 남자가 좋아 여자가 좋아? 72세의 정말 귀여운 여성분이 계셔.

 

Jules: That's like the same age as my mom. That's too weird.

우리 엄마랑 나이가 같으시네. 너무 이상해.

 

Cameron: That's fine. There's a man everyone loves. He seems amazing. I watched his video with the whole group. People were crying.

괜찮아. 모두들 좋아하는 남자분이 계셔. 정말 멋진 분 같아. 전체 팀원들이랑 그의 영상을 봤거든. 사람들 난리도 아니였어(울만큼)

 

* set the tone은 간단히 이야기해서 "분위기를 조성하다"라는 뜻!

즉, 특정 상황이나 무드를 만들어내는 의미를 담고 있어서,

"Your moning routine sets the tone of the day : 아침 루틴이 하루의 분위기를 결정한다!"

이런 것처럼, 분위기 조성에 대한 느낌을 가지고 있는 패턴이다.

유용하게 쓰일 또 하나의 패턴!

 

 

#이번 Scene의 Review time~

 

Cameron: Hey. I need you for two minutes, uninterrupted.

 

Jules: Okay.

 

Cameron: Remember a few weeks ago, we talked about the senior intern program?

 

Jules: No.

 

Cameron: Really? We had a whole, big conversation about it.

 

Jules: We did? Okay, remind me. Seniors in high school or college?

 

Cameron: No, no, no. Seniors in life. Older people.

 

Jules: Hold on. What?

 

Cameron: I told you I felt like we needed to do an outreach program. You definitely seemed to be liking the idea, so I set it in motion. It's gonna be great.

 

Jules: Hold, please. You're hiring senior citizen interns?

Jules: Do they eventually want jobs here?

 

Cameron: No, darling, they're all retired. They just want the experience. And I would like one to work directly with you.

 

Jules: Wait, Cameron, no. First of all, I'm not great with older people. You know how I am with my parents. This could be... Why do I have to have one?

 

Cameron: Because you have to set the tone. Now, would you prefer a man or a woman? There's a great 72-year-old woman, really cute.

Cameron: That's fine. There's a man everyone loves. He seems amazing. I watched his video with the whole group. People were crying.

 

Jules: Okay, this is not going to work, in my opinion. But how long do I have to do this for? Minimum?

 

Cameron: Six weeks, or we'll be sued.

 

Jules: I know we never talked about this.

 

Cameron: Yeah, we did. For real. He starts tomorrow.
